GATTINONI FOR ALTAROMA AT OPEN COLONNA

DRESSING LIKE DISHES TO DELIGHT EYE AND PALATE IN THE SPIRIT OF EXPO. AND THE FASHION-FOOD IS SERVED.

The Gattinoni brand presents itself at Altaroma with a collection of 15 pieces inspired by the table and the excellence of Italian food. Guillermo Mariotto, creative director of the fashion house, here wearing the hat of designer/gourmet, conceives a fashion show as a banquet, setting it at Open Colonna, the Roman restaurant of the super chef Antonello Colonna. Couture à la carte, with the models posed on the elegantly laid table for a set vaguely à la Beecroft. The idea was to interpret fashion in recipes: from the pasta to the dessert, the garments were as delicious and sumptuous as cakes, meringues, ravioli, braids of wheat, cinnamon, cream, licorice, and caramel, with parades of multiple folds like origami or napkins, jewels signed Gianni de Benedittis in bread dough and precious stones, fabrics like golden bouquets of fruit and flowers, platinum fork-chokers and a feminine tuxedo, with long tiered skirt. High fashion in classic key, in the name of impeccable, sometimes daring, dressmaking with trains, chiffon, enchanting laces, ribbons, and sculpted volumes like mini-architecture modelled on the bodies. Everything was sprinkled with irony, spicy or caramelized. “We imagined and thought about eating, which is a wonderful thing, and we translated it into clothing,” explained Mariotto. “Food is love and there we were sewing it.”
